I have spent a majority of my life pursuing a career in medicine, despite this, after graduating and working in the field for 3 years as a medical scribe I came to find that medicine no longer aligned with what I wanted in a career.
A common thread in all of my past experiences was a focus on people, improving their lives and experiences. I began to explore fields where I could continue to do what I enjoyed most about medicine, helping people. During this exploration I gravitated towards careers that would allow me to incorporate creativity and innovation, two aspects that I found to be missing from healthcare and are key components in activities that I enjoy.
I landed on UX design, a field that would allow me to represent the voice of users to influence changes that would improve their experiences with a product. The more I looked into UX, the more I found areas where skills learned while pursuing medicine could translate into the design process, such as with research and empathizing with the user. With this knowledge in hand I made the decision to make a pivot into UX design by entering the General Assembly UX Design immersive which I completed in June 2022.
